If you'd like to get the statistics to your website, but you find Google Analytics too cumbersome and too confusing ...

Here's a great alternative to Google Analytics that is much easier and much simpler.

It's a service called Clicky.

I know the name sounds a little whimsical, however, I've been using Clicky since 2010. I use it nearly every day. It's tested and it works.

I actually have clicky installed on my site as well as Google Analytics. But I'll confess, I use Clicky 99% of the time because it's so much easier to use than Google Analytics.

What you get with Clicky

With Clicky, you're able to see your website data in real-time. You can measure things like how many people are visiting your site, what pages they visit, how are visitors finding you, what geographic locations your visitors are from, how many people opted in for a lead magnet, how many people fill out an application and lots more.

The best thing about Clicky is the data is accessible and user-friendly. No complicated configuration required. Just turn the key and go. 

So how does Clicky actually work? Well, it's just like Google Analytics. You install a tracking script onto your website, which then sends the data back to your Clicky account. It's that simple.

How much does Clicky cost? 

It might not cost you anything because Clicky offers both free and paid plans.

With their free plans, you get up to 3000 page views per day (i.e. about 90,000 page views per month). And most business websites don't get anywhere near 90,000 page views per month.

Plus, with their free plan, you get all their standard analytics, which might be all you'll ever need.

Me personally, I subscribe to their Pro plan because for a few bucks I get access to premium features like Goals & Revenue, Long-term Metrics, and Advanced Filtering, which I use all the time.

NOTE: If you wanna hear something funny, as I was putting this blog post together for you, I discovered some premium features of Clicky I didn't even know existed. So I'm actually glad I created this post!

Is using Google Analytics a search ranking factor?

Some people wonder (and I've wondered this myself) is using Google Analytics a search ranking factor?

In other words, does having Google Analytics installed on your website help your search rankings? Like, does it send some sort of secret bat signal to Google?

No one really knows for sure because Google doesn't publicly share the inner workings of their search algorithm. But the data and evidence clearly says no.

Therefore, using an alternative to Google Analytics (like Clicky) won't affect your search rankings in Google.

Why bother with website statistics at all? 

There's no rule that says you have to track stats. But consider this ...

A business owner says, "We're not getting as many leads from our website as we'd like. Our leads and inquiries have dropped off from where they were 6-12 months ago. What's the problem? What do we need to fix?"

To answer that question, you need data.

For example, is the root of the problem traffic to your site or is it your actual website?

  • Let's say your lead volume is half of what it was a year ago and you haven't touched your website. But then you notice that the traffic to your site is also half of what it was a year ago. Well, there's your problem. And now your focus needs to be on ways to increase traffic to your website. But if you're not measuring what's going on with your website, you'd have no way of knowing that this was the problem.
  • Conversely, let's say your website traffic is pretty much at the same level as it was a year ago. But your leads are half of what they were a year ago. Well, that tells us the problem is most likely with your website. It could be something mechanical. It could be that your offer isn't resonating with your target audience any longer. Maybe people are bouncing from your site or not spending as much time on your site, which could be an indication that your competitors have upped their game on their business websites and offer a better user experience — and maybe you need to think about enhancing or redesigning your site to keep pace with the expectations of your target audience.

So these are some of the reasons why it's important to be measuring and tracking things on your website.
